Comment on Warning!! New Jim Crow Era—Section 5 Still Needed by theodore miraldi

It's disingenuous to resurrect the specter of Jim Crow in an argument before the Supreme Court on whether to strike down section 5 of the Voters Right Act.
Politicizing safeguards on voter registration through new State legislation will finally make everyone's vote matter. Voting should be sacrosanct and protected from massive voter fraud that has taken place in the last decade.
The 5 states that are named in section 5 have higher minority voter registration for decades. It has now become discriminatory to let section 5 stand. Requiring citizens to have proper documentation in order to vote should have been secured long ago.
The 2012 election reeked of voter fraud where some precincts in blue states registered over 100% voter participation. Jim Crow is long gone, and should be finally buried.
If Wiha Powell did her homework she could have easily come to a different conclusion. We need to make sure each vote is legitimate and not live with old scars, or urban legion. For the first time in election history the percentage of black voters was higher then whites.
Obama won this election by less then 350,000 votes in 5 states with little, or no registration laws. Obama did not win one state with strict voter registration rules. I'm surprised that the ASPA National Weblog is not supporting legislation that removes fraud at the ballot box.
Certainly voting is more important than many other privileges we enjoy as citizens. But, are we the only ones who are voting in our Local, State and Federal elections? Section 5 is a non issue!

This entire debate is centered on whether several southern states have taken the approprate measure to inate a specific clause contained within section 5 of the Voters Right Act. If one would choose to look at the record of these states, it would be deemed that positive action by these few states have made voting easy for all. Voter registration has skyrocketed, and more people of color are voting now then ever before. The real question is, does the Voting Right Act in perpetuity desciminate against a few states and not all equally? In addition to policy is the enormous weight put upon voter rights by political gamesmanship, and the need for a national Photo ID required in many states. The left calls it descrimination, the right says it's necessary to
insure fraud free elections....just how important is your vote? You decide.

I do agree with all the concepts you have introduced
for your post. They are really convincing and will certainly
work. Still, the posts are very brief for beginners.
May just you please extend them a little from next time?
Thanks for the post.

The low divorce filing could indicate a lot more than greater family stability in the U.S. There is good, hard evidence from multiple bar associations and state court organizations that the declining divorce filing rate is a function of economics, not social change.

That being said, I maintain optimism as almost a matter of course. There is much to be thankful for and hopeful about.

Sarah, I completely agree with you. However I would caution people to continue doing what they are doing because the sparkle of hope at the end of the tunnel needs to burn brighter. We are not there yet especially in the area of social justice. With that said, lets celebrate our successes without getting complacent about what we have achieved.
